Capstar is intended to kill adult fleas on your pet. To give your cat the tablet, place the tablet inside her mouth or hide it in her food. If you give the pill by hand, you can encourage your cat to swallow it by gently rubbing your cat's throat or gently blowing on her nose.
If you hide the pill in her food, make sure that she actually swallows the pill. If you aren't sure whether or not your cat swallowed the pill, it is safe to give her a second one.
Dosing and Safety
Give cats weighing 2-25 pounds one 114mg tablet. Treat each infested pet in your home. Capstar is safe to give pregnant and nursing cats. Weigh your cat before you administer the pill. If your cat weighs more than 25 pounds, consult your veterinarian regarding the proper dose of Capstar needed.
It is safe to use Capstar with other drugs, such as antibiotics, heartworm preventives, de-worming medications, corticosteroids, vaccines, flea shampoos, and other flea products.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after you give your cat Capstar.
How Often Can You Give Capstar?

How Effective is Capstar for Cats?
The active ingredient in Capstar, Nitenpyram, is effective at killing adult fleas. Capstar begins to work 30 minutes after administration. Research studies indicate that Capstar reaches more than 90% efficacy against adult fleas within six hours of administration in cats.
Capstar for Cats kills adult fleas on your cat's body. It does not work to prevent future flea infestations. A monthly flea preventive is recommended for the long-term prevention of flea infestations.
What are the Potential Side Effects of Capstar?
As fleas begin to die on your cat, he may begin to scratch. The itchiness your cat experiences should be temporary, and it is a reaction to the adult fleas on his body, not the medication.
In rare cases, cats may experience hyperactivity, vocalization, panting, and excessive grooming. If you notice these behaviors, please consult with your veterinarian.
