The Seresto Dog Collar repels and kills ticks, fleas, and lice. It is placed around the dog's neck and protects for eight months. The active ingredients in the collar have been extensively tested for safety and effectiveness.
Using the collar
Using these collars is very easy. The collar is latched around the dog's neck such that it is tight enough not to fall off but not so tight that two fingers can't be inserted underneath the collar. Then, any excess strap is just trimmed off with a pair of scissors.
The collar is waterproof, and the dog can be bathed up to once a month without affecting the effectiveness of the collar; if the owner prefers to bathe weekly, the collar should be removed during the bath. These collars are easy to take off and put back on the dog. The dog can also go swimming while wearing the collar, although the company warns that if the dog swims most days while wearing the collar, the collar should be replaced after five months instead of eight.
Seresto collars have been tested in large, long-term clinical trials. The only side effects ever noted is that rarely, some dogs will experience irritation of their skin directly underneath the collar strap. Cats are not affected in any way by the compounds in the collar.
The EPA has extensively tested these collars for safety around children, and has no concerns; even if a young child pets a dog wearing one of these collars and then places their hands in their mouth, the dose of active ingredients the child will be exposed to is far too low to affect the child in any way.
The collars also have a safety release; if the dog gets the collar caught on something and pulls, the collar will release and free the dog. The owner can then replace the collar on the dog. Due to this safety feature, a leash should never be attached to the Seresto collar.
It takes two to three days after application for the collar to provide complete protection. Ticks, lice, and fleas are repelled, and if they do get on the dog, they are instantly killed. They do not have time to bite the dog before dying.
Clinical studies have shown Seresto collars are close to 100% effective in preventing dogs from getting tick-borne diseases. They also close to 100% effective in clearing up cases of flea dermatitis, although that generally takes about a month for the skin to completely heal.
Odorless and non-greasy
The Seresto Dog Collar has no odor and is not greasy or powdery to the touch. The dog's fur will not feel greasy while wearing one of these collars.
